Frequent M&A Among International Giants Accelerates Consolidation in the Potato Processing Equipment Industry

On June 22, 2026, InvestIndustrial officially announced the completion of its 100% equity acquisition of Dutch companies Tummers Group and Van der Giessen Industrie. The transaction brings two globally renowned Dutch manufacturers specializing in upstream potato processing equipment into InvestIndustrial's established potato processing equipment industrial platform, comprehensively strengthening the group's strategic positioning in the global potato processing equipment sector.

Prior to this acquisition, InvestIndustrial had already acquired controlling stakes in Dutch company Kiremko, U.S.-based Idaho Steel, and Reyco, forming a comprehensive industrial matrix covering French fry production line equipment, potato starch/flour processing main lines, and ancillary storage and conveying systems. Notably, Kiremko and Tummers operate in highly overlapping market segments, with both companies focused primarily on French fry and potato starch production lines, frequently competing head-to-head in global markets and often caught in a vicious cycle of price undercutting and channel resource attrition. Following the completion of this acquisition, the group will unify its top-level technical roadmap, clarify R&D responsibilities across each brand, and coordinate global sales channels — effectively eliminating internal homogenization and consolidating its near-monopolistic position as the leading supplier in the high-end potato processing equipment market.

As the international industrial landscape undergoes restructuring, Chinese leading potato processing equipment manufacturers face both opportunities and challenges. In the near term, once overseas giants complete their consolidation, the barrier for Chinese manufacturers to participate in overseas high-end turnkey projects will rise significantly, and competitive pressure for breakthrough growth will intensify. However, the market also presents clear development windows:

First, following the completion of consolidation by international leading groups, equipment pricing will trend upward and customized solution delivery cycles will lengthen. Chineseenterprises can leverage three core advantages — high cost performance, rapid custom development, and round-the-clock localized operations and maintenance — to establish differentiated competitive breakthroughs.
Second, specialized Chineseequipment manufacturers are accelerating strategic partnerships and deepening upstream-downstream collaboration. Taking Shanghai Uwants Technology Development Co., Ltd. and Shandong Xinzhengda Industrial Equipment Co., Ltd. as an example, the two companies jointly developed a 5-ton-capacity French fry intelligent production line. Centered on AI intelligent algorithms and equipped with multi-dimensional online sensing terminals, the line enables fully automated process monitoring and autonomous operation, while incorporating a tiered heat energy recovery system for significant energy savings. This substantially enhances the international competitiveness of Chineseturnkey equipment. Going forward, the two companies will continue to strengthen their turnkey project integration capabilities, accumulating proprietary core technologies in key processing operations and advanced intelligent equipment.
Third, Chineseleading manufacturers have now established a mature product portfolio spanning French fries, potato chips, and potato starch/flour. In overseas markets with higher cost sensitivity — such as Russia, India, the Middle East, and South America — they have built long-term stable customer bases and project track records.

This overseas M&A event also serves as a wake-up call for all industry participants: consistently tracking global competitive dynamics, producing in-depth professional analysis, and building industry authority are indispensable elements of long-term brand development. Shanghai Uwants will continue to publish industry observations and market insights, working alongside industry peers to track and analyze global trends in the potato processing sector.
